The Gender Project

Each piece in this project consists of double portraits depicting both a masculine and feminine side of the participant.

We live in a 2-gender world, which means that society classifies people as either male or female (masculine or feminine), and as polar opposites. The media and commercial photography typically show a stereotypical side of gender roles which contribute to this belief.

The Gender Project was created to show that everyone has both
masculine and feminine qualities or behaviors about them and that gender is socially constructed.

It is important to notice how we portray these genders in our dress and our actions around others, but also in how we treat others based on their perceived gender.

How do you define gender?

What does gender mean to you?

Let's start a conversation.
